'Scream' fan recap: The haunting of Emma Duvall, or why sex kills

Season 1 | Episode 8 | “Ghosts” | Aired Aug 18, 2015

Seeing Will’s gruesome ghost everywhere would be enough to make anyone Scream. In fact, the haunting of Emma Duvall proved to be both brutal and eye-opening. What was the biggest lesson learned? Sex is bad. Seriously. Three major secrets were divulged, and all of them were due to … bad romance. (That’s what the title should’ve been!) Here are the 3 secxrets revealed in “Ghosts.”

Brooke Crying

Just Say No: Turns out Mayor Daddy told Brooke the truth about her mom being in rehab, but he left out one pertinent dead-body-in-the-trunk detail. Mrs. Maddox and one of her boyfriends partied too hard and he ODed. Afraid of the scandal, the Mayor covered up the death and the body.

Nom de Plume: We always knew there was more to Mr. B than good looks and poor judgment; we just didn’t imagine it was a warrant for murder. Turns out Seth taught at a community college in New Hampshire, where he slept with an 18-year-old who ended up dead. As suspect number one he bolted, changed his name from Palmer to Branson, and—having not learned a lesson—found himself another PYT at George Washington High. Now he’s behind bars for the Lakewood murders, thanks to the highly incriminating and oh-so-easily found murder weapon and cell phone. Should we give kudos to the killer for using a red herring to put away this “doosh”?

Cleaved WillSecret Baby: Poor Emma learned she had a half-sibling thanks to the ghost of her cleaved-in-two boyfriend. After Daisy found out Steven slept with her best friend, Brandon James was there to comfort her. One thing led to another, and Daisy got knocked up at 16 by the town freak. She left town, had the baby, and gave it up for adoption before moving back and eventually resuming her relationship with Emma’s dad.

Question is: Does Emma have a big brother or sister? Piper would be the most obvious choice, but I’d like to think they wouldn’t clobber us over the head like that. Is it possible Emma slept with her half-brother? And could the sheriff actually be Troy? In last week’s profile of the killer, I suggested a family member was behind the murders. Could there actually be two?

Do you believe Mr. B is being set up? Who do you think Emma’s sibling is? Is the secret baby the motive for murder?
