Atom Firestorm Canary Captain Cold CW Spinoff

Poll: Which DC superheroes do you want to see on an 'Arrow'/'Flash' spinoff?

News broke earlier today that The CW is planning on releasing another DC Comics based superhero show. This show, if it goes to series, will take place in the same universe as Arrow and The Flash. That means that actors and characters we have seen on those two shows could cross over to the new drama.

Deadline reported earlier today that three initial characters are being eyed for the series: Ray Palmer/The Atom (Brandon Routh), Leonard Snart/Captain Cold (Wentworth Miller), and Professor Martin Stein/Firestorm (Victor Garber). Caity Lotz, who previously played Sara Lance/Black Canary on Arrow, is also rumored for the project.

Ray Palmer The Atom Ray Palmer/The Atom

Ray Palmer made his first appearance on Arrow in the opening of season three. Ray swooped in to buy Queen Consolidated in the aftermath of Slade Wilson’s rampage and Moira Queen’s death. He has been running the company and working on a top-secret suit called the A.T.O.M. This week we finally got to see the suit in action, as Ray finished the design and jetted off to fly around Starling City. Fans of the show may have noticed a new theme song playing whenever Ray was on screen. Arrow composer Blake Neely gave another Arrow spinoff hero his own theme music: Barry Allen/The Flash. The Flash’s theme can be heard in Barry Allen’s first appearance on Arrow in season two. Could Ray Palmer’s presence on Arrow be the setup for his own show?

Captain Cold Leonard SnartLeonard Snart/Captain Cold

Leonard Start got his code name “Captain Cold” from Cisco, when Snart stole the S.T.A.R. labs’ freeze gun. Since his introduction to The Flash, he has been a formidable villain against Barry Allen. Snart teamed up with Mick Rory/Heat Wave (Dominic Purcell) to bring down Barry, but was unsuccessful. In the comics, these villains are part of a group called the Rogues, which also includes Pied Piper, Golden Glider, Mirror Master, the Trickster, Weather Wizard, Captain Boomerang, the Top, and Abra Kadabra. Many of these characters have already debuted on The Flash and could easily cross over to this new show.

Firestorm Martin SteinProfessor Martin Stein/Firestorm

Firestorm blazed onto The Flash a few weeks ago, teasing the dual personalities of Professor Martin Stein and Ronnie Raymond (Robbie Amell). In “Fallout,” Ronnie and Professor Stein were able to separate, but they decided to merge again to learn more about the F.I.R.E.S.T.O.R.M. matrix. Fans of The Flash loved seeing this iconic DC superhero on screen and would welcome him (them) back. If Professor Stein is going to be on this new show alone, does that mean he and Ronnie separate again and that Ronnie joins #TeamFlash in season two?

Sara Lance Black CanaryCaity Lotz

The loss of Caity’s character, Sara Lance/Black Canary, in the season opener of Arrow shook the fan community pretty hard. No one was expecting her to leave the show so soon. While Laurel is the Black Canary in the comics, I think a lot of people were hoping Caity would stay on to be Arrow‘s Canary. Now that Caity is potentially joining this new show, what could this mean for her character? Will she be playing a resurrected (à la Ra’s Lazarus Pit) version of Sara? Will she be recast as a different character completely? Amy Marie, co-host of the Assembly of Geeks podcast, has an interesting theory about how Sara could come back. If Barry is successful in saving his mom and changing the future, maybe Sara will still be alive?

Fan Poll

We want to hear from you! Who do you want to see on an Arrow/Flash spinoff? Do you want to see Ray Palmer fight crime in Star City on his own? Should Roy and Thea team up and be vigilantes together? Do you want to see Sara Lance back as the Black Canary? Which DC Comics characters would you like to see introduced in this new show? Hawkgirl? Fire and Ice? Green Lantern? Vote in the poll below!
